Earl Edward Tweed

Earl Edward Tweed has finished his earthly journey after 95 years of living, and has been called home to worship at the feet of Jesus on August 18th, 2017 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX.

Tweed, Earl Edward was born on January 4th, 1922 in Fort Benning, Georgia, to the parents of Thomas Tweed and Viola McGuirt. Earl married Audrey Wheeler on July 18, 1943 in Dallas, TX. It was love at first sight as they only had six dates before heading to the altar to promise each other their vows. Their wedding date was pushed up from August 1st to July 18th, giving Earl’s lovely bride-to-be a week to plan their wedding due to his military transfer. They were married in the bride’s home where they continued to live and reside in this very day and had recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary back on July 18, 2017. They had many adventures together and traveled to many destinations. They were co-owners of Dallas Lumber & Hardware from 1949 – 1984. Earl was very active in the Masonic Order, having served at the head of the following: Highland Park Blue Lodge, York Rite Chapter and Council, and Dallas Commandry #6. He was captain of the commandry drill team for 25 years and had won many times in the Texas Championships as well as the National Championship in 1964. Earl was also active in many other Masonic Orders. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 542.

Earl served in the 29th Division of the 115th Infantry, landing on Omaha Beach in the second wave on D-Day. He also served as a major in the Korean War. He was presented several medals in honor of his service including the Bronze Star, the French Medal-Legion of Honor and the Korean Medal. A reception was held by the Daughters of War World II who honored the presentation of the French Medal of Honor presented by Major General Albert Zapanta. In honor of his service, Earl was able to return to France for the 50th, 60th, and 69th Anniversary of D-Day.

In his younger years, he and his brother, Ervin, participated in the Equestrian show jumping and continued many years after he and his loving wife married. Earl won many ribbons and trophies in this competition. He and Audrey were also avid snow skiers and continued well up into their eighties.

Earl is survived by his wife, Audrey Tweed; daughter Penelope A. Hix with her husband Charles Hix of Allen, TX; his sister Lillian McCart of Elba, Alabama; granddaughter Leslie Allen with her husband Rick Allen of Richardson, TX; great granddaughter Amanda Brazzel of Albany, Georgia; great granddaughter Sarah Allen of Ft.
