July 23, 1937 - July 24, 2018
Cushing – Funeral services for Kara Brooks Sitton, 81, will be Saturday July 28th, at 10am at the Dickie Allen funeral home chapel. Visitation will be Friday July 27th from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Dad, Kara Brooks, was born July 23, 1937 at home in Oak Flat (Cushing), TX to Kirk Sitton and Julia Inez Ayers. He was the third child and brother of oldest brother Billy Bob, Carroll Keith, Julia Kay (Penney), and youngest sister Deborah Ann (Jones). He received
his Bachelor’s from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Teacher’s College at the time, and went on to get his Master’s in Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University, a College at the time. He never missed a month doing his part to assure continuing education
for Texas youth was an option for them financially. He enlisted in the Army as a Specialist and was in Vietnam, USARPAC, from 1961 to 1963 when he was honorably discharged with the Good Conduct Medal 1stAward and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam).
He retired from “counting people” in the U.S. Census Bureau in 1990, and took up small engine repair, looking after his grandchildren, and travelling the country with Alice. Dad, Kara Brooks was a beloved Brother, Father, Grandfather, golfer, and baseball
player/fan with a fondness in later years for a Subway sandwich – Turkey – with lots of ranch dressing. He is preceded in death by his wife Alice Marie Bridgwater Sitton, who passed away September 26th, 1999.
He is survived by son, Kedren Reade Sitton and wife Sheryl Lynn Smythe and sons Robert Charles Douglas and Nathaniel Andrew Douglas; and daughter Melissa Ann Sitton Sharp and husband Rick Sharp and children Jonny Ray Justus, Cody Ray Justus, Kara Justus, Tyler
Sharp and Tiffany Sharpand many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
