Willie "Bill" Ray Snow

December 8, 1924 - July 15, 2018

Willie Ray (Bill) (Big Daddy) Snow, 93, of Chandler, died peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was born in Decatur, Texas on December 8, 1924, to parents Learner Everett and Hope Beatrice (Murrell) Snow, with 3 sisters, Wanna, Lavonia and Lorene, and 5 brothers, Alton, Glen, Fletcher, Harley (Bo) and Joe. Bill attended school in Alvord and Gainesville, graduating Gainesville High in 1942. He entered Texas A&M in 1942, and attended until enlisting in the Navy in 1943, where he served during WWII as a radio technician on submarine U.S.S. Flasher in the Southwest Pacific. He married the love of his life, Zelma Ruth Martin on May 6, 1945, then returned to A&M to earn a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, June, 1949. Licensed as a Professional Engineer, he worked for Texas Power & Light Company for 36 years, retiring in 1985 to Lake Tyler East where they lived until moving to Chandler in 1994.

These facts fall short of describing the man we all so loved and admired. Bill Snow epitomized a life well-lived. His priorities never faultered; his values never failed. He was always prepared. His greatest legacy is that of the perfect 72 year marriage to his life-long love, Zelma. Together they raised 4 great kids, and led a life of service to, and enjoyment of others. Their contributions to church, family, community, civic, and individual needs were innumerable. He used his gifts of intelligence, wisdom and kindness, as well as carpentry and other skills to help anywhere there was need. His wit was keen and clever, often catching one by surprise. He enjoyed great love and success and a long and happy life filled with rich relationships and many close friends. He will be remembered with love and great respect by all who knew him.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Zelma, his parents and siblings, Zelma's family, and his great grandson, Braxton Tran. He is survived by his children, Carolyn Ruth West and husband Tim, Joe Ray Snow and wife Laura, Glenda Kay Snow, and Gary Neal Snow and wife Karen. In addition, Zel & Bill cherished 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He also cherished his many nieces and nephews and greats from both the Snow and Martin families.

The family extends our gratitude to Fannie Wilkerson, Cassandra Dora and the staff of Chandler Nursing Center who provided loving care to both Bill & Zel in their final years, and to FUMC Chandler, where he was a member since 1994.

Memorial services will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Chandler under direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home. Visitaion will be Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
