WARD, Waylon 02/04/1942 06/25/2018 Waylon O'Neil Ward, 76, was born February 4, 1942 in Pittsburg, Texas to Melba Stanley and Winston O'Neil Ward. Waylon left this world on June 25, 2018 and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held on Monday July 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Northwest Bible Church at 8505 Douglas Avenue in Dallas Texas. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Texas at a later date. He is survived by his 4 children, Tim Ward and his wife Bo, Jean Carter and her husband Sean, Guy Ward and his wife Stephanie, Anna Oelkrug and her husband Scot, his step-daughters Lyle Peterson and Jennifer Hagan, his brother David Ward and sister Glenda Hays. Waylon was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Monica Cassel, Jackson and Addison Carter, Andrew and Matthew Ward, Olivia and Tyler Oelkrug, David, Mary Catherine, John and Elizabeth Peterson. Waylon graduated from Mt. Pleasant Senior Highschool in 1960. He attended Texas A&M University from the fall of 1960 to the spring of 1965. Waylon was a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets Squadron 4. In the tradition of the Twelfth Man, Waylon "walked-on" the Aggie football team. He was a two-year letterman earning a scholarship and was true twelfth man player. Waylon graduated in 1965 with his B.A. degree in English. During his years at A&M Waylon served as president of the Wesley Foundation and as a leader in the Aggie Bible Association under the mentorship of Professor Arthur Smith. He attended Asbury Seminary in Wilmore Kentucky and joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ serving six years with that organization. He served as the International Personnel director of Crusade working with Dr. Bill Bright for two years. He served as a campus minister at SMU for 2 years and Texas Tech for 2 years. In 1975 he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with honors, earning a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. In that same year, a group of pastors and Christian business men joined with Waylon to found one of the first Biblical based counseling centers in the Dallas area. He served as the founding director of Dallas Christian Counseling for eight years. He was a counselor, speaker and writer. His first book The Bible in Counseling was published in 1977. This book is still available and has been widely received and recognized as a great tool for pastors, Sunday school teachers and Christian counselors. He earned a Master's degree of Education from Texas A&M Commerce in 1982. In 1997 Waylon became an associate pastor at the North Dallas Vineyard Church serving in that capacity until 2002. In that year Waylon created a ministry, Mercy Matters, designed to help Christians learn to care for one another and share the love of Christ to those that are struggling with their faith. In 2007, Mercy Matters relocated to the mid-cities area of DFW. Mercy Matters focused their ministry efforts on healing father wounds and enabling men to minister to one another. Waylon became the founding director of the Global Fathering Initiative to address the epidemic of fatherlessness and father deprivation. His book, Who's Your Daddy? addresses these issues and has helped hundreds of men, women and children suffering from father wounds. Waylon was honored by the Phoenix University of Theology with two Doctoral degrees, one in Counseling and one in Theology. Waylon's desire was that his body be donated to science.
