Allen Nelson
March 20, 1933 - July 9, 2018

Ewell Allen Nelson, age 85, of Brownwood, died Monday, July 9, 2018.
Allen was born on March 20, 1933 in Dallas to Paul and Sophia (Edelen) Nelson. Allen graduated from Brownwood High School in 1951 and attended Texas A&M University, receiving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1958. Between entering A&M and graduating, Allen served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Aviation Training Technician. Allen was proud to have been a Marine. After graduation, Allen worked for Mobil Oil. He later went to work for IBM and retired as a Senior Account Representative.
He is survived by his wife Betty Jo Bucy Nelson; his sister, Sue Nelson Gibson of San Antonio; two sons, Richard Nelson and wife Susan of Spring and Joe Nelson and wife Valerie of Brownwood; a granddaughter, Sarah Nelson of Spring. Additionally, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann Willard and husband John of Brownwood, sister-in-law, Nan Nelson of Fort Worth and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lee Nelson and a brother, Foster Nelson.
A private memorial service will be held later where his cremated remains will be scattered at the ranch that he so loved.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice as well as Brownwood Nursing and Rehab for the loving care they gave him during his last days.

Allen was born March 20, 1933 in Dallas, Texas, to Paul Allen Nelson (class of '26) and Sophia Edelen Nelson. Allen graduated from Brownwood High School in 1951 and attended Texas A&M College, receiving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1958.

Between entering Texas A&M and graduating Allen served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Aviation Training Technician—Allen was proud to have served as a Marine. After graduation, Allen initially worked for Mobile Oil. Allen later worked for IBM and retired as a Senior Account Representative. He is survived by his wife Betty Jo Bucy Nelson, his sister, Sue Nelson Gibson, of San Antonio, Texas; his son Richard Nelson (Class of '83) and wife Susan of Spring. Texas; son Joe Nelson (Class of '93) and wife, Valerie, of Brownwood, Texas and granddaughter, Sarah Nelson of Spring, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by John and Ann Willard, his sister and brother-in-law of Brownwood, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Lee Nelson: and brother, Foster Nelson (Class of '63).
