Steele H. Nixon
1920-2018

Steele H. Nixon (December 5, 1920 - July 10, 2018), died peacefully at the age of 97 after a long, courageous battle with old age. He was preceded in death by his wife Gabrielle, daughter Mary, son Ned, brother Achilles, and uncle and benefactor Mike Coston. He is survived by his children: Sarah, Paul (Sue), Claire (Danny), Emily (Matt), Madeleine (Matt), Steele, Jr. (Donna), and Amy (Gabe); grandchildren Charley, Gabe, Alexandra, Sophie, Katie, Joe, Alan, Anna, Sydney, Caroline, Tom, Alex, and Macy; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Connie, and nephews John and Michael.
He began his mechanical engineering studies at Texas A & M University with the class of 1943. After serving his country in WWII, he completed his degree and graduated with the class of 1947. He spent his entire professional career with Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, first on the Pennsylvania pipeline, then in Shreveport for many years and, ultimately, in Houston.
Always a student, his guiding principles were learned from Nature: plant seeds and nurture them as they grow to fruition. He will be remembered for cultivating beauty through gardening and relationships through bargain hunting. He also enjoyed music, dancing, and playing bridge with friends and was distinguished by the depth and authenticity of his kindness and sense of propriety. A methodical and precise conversationalist, he rewarded those who listened patiently with intricate, novel knowledge and enduring singular insights, for after all, "He was the most interesting man in the world."
Relatives and friends are invited to share in the celebration of Steele's life. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, July 15, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Christian Church, 7202 FM 2920, Spring, TX 77379. A funeral service will be held at the church Monday morning, July 16, at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside burial at Klein Memorial Park Cemetery, 32509 TX-249, Pinehurst, TX 77362. A reception will follow at The Heritage Tomball Senior Living facility at 1221 Graham Drive, Tomball, Texas 77375.
At the request of his family, in lieu of flowers, please plant a pear tree for future generations because, in the words of Steele, "There's always more to the story, and the rest remains to be seen."
