WARREN HUGO ROBERTS
OCTOBER 6, 1931 - JUNE 21, 2018

Warren Hugo Roberts, known to his friends as Dub, of Arlington, TX, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2018 at 86 years of age. Warren was born in San Antonio and was married to Betty Brotze Roberts until her death in 2003. They had two sons, Samuel Floyd and Ross Christian "Chris" Roberts of Arlington, TX. He was father-in–law to Susan Haynes Roberts and Grandad to Ross Christian, Jr. and Griffin Cade Roberts. He was Grand Dub to Sharon & Robbie Hill, Amy & Andrew Eubanks, Michael Palmer, Daniel Palmer, and Jacob, Nicholas, and Samuel Holland. He had four great grandsons, Kefa, McKale, and Ezekiel Hill and Henry Eubanks.
Warren graduated in 1949 from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. He served in the US Navy from 1951-1955. During the Korean Conflict, he was aboard the USS Philippine Sea CV-47. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a Distinguished Student (member of Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Pi Mu) and also served on the Student Engineers Council. After graduation, he held various technical management assignments with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for nine years. For the next 20 years, he worked for Priester Supply Company, and acquired a principal ownership. He retired in 1987.
When his children were young, he really enjoyed coaching their football and baseball teams. And in his later years, he once again served youngsters by being a substitute teacher. The children at the school knew him affectionately as "Abuelo".
Warren loved Texas A&M. He was a proud Aggie and loved the colors of Maroon & White. Aggie Football was his favorite. Until he became ill, he had season tickets and rarely missed a game. He gave back to Texas A&M in several ways by providing endowed scholarships and serving on the 12th Man Foundation Board of Directors, the Texas A&M Foundation University Associates Program-Fort Worth/Tarrant County Steering Committee, the Chancellors 21st Century Council of Advisors, and was Chairman of the Texas A&M University System-Legislative Initiative for Education.
Warren's civic participation included Patron of a number of organizations, including the Fort Worth/Tarrant County Arts Council, Fort Worth Ballet, Kimbell Art Museum, Texas Historical Foundation, Dallas Museum of Art, and University of Texas Institute of Texas Cultures. He was a Life Member of the Archaeological Conservatory, Albuquerque, NM. Warren was appointed to the Texas Air Control Board in December, 1989 by Governor William P. Clements and served until August 1993.
Traveling was another favorite activity of Dub's. He really enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, France, Germany, and various European cities. His most favorite spot to visit was Colorado. Pagosa Springs, Co. was his go to place for vacation. He had many great memories, one being snow skiing with family and friends, of trips to Colorado.
Warren is survived by his wife, Wauneta H. Roberts, his sons, Samuel & Chris Roberts, daughter-in-law Susan H. Roberts, step-children, Caron H. Palmer & Bruce B. Holland and their spouses, Gregory Palmer and Cynthia Holland, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 27th at the Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211 at 10:00am.
