Charles Wagner Pollock
April 16, 1934 - May 24, 2018

Charles (Chic) Wagner Pollock died in Lancaster County, PA, ten years after experiencing traumatic brain injury as the result of medical error. Former resident of Wayne and Valley Forge, Charles was born in Boston, MA, the son of James Edwin and Mary Catherine Pollock. He was valedictorian of Mifflinburg High School and spent his youth on his parents’ dairy farm. Like his father, grandfather and oldest granddaughter, he completed his undergraduate education at The Pennsylvania State University, which received its initial charter under the governor of PA, James Pollock, Charles’ great-great uncle. Charles earned his Master of Science Degree from Texas A&M University, which he attended under the select National Science Foundation grant and completed advances graduate study at Temple University.
An avid reader and amateur photographer, Charles enjoyed traveling with family. During his long tenure in education, he taught science at Tuscarora Valley High School (PA), Manheim Central High School (PA) and Southern Regional High School (NJ). He spent most of his career at Valley Forge Military Academy and College, first as Assistant Director of Admissions and later as professor of Physics and Calculus in the college. He was inducted into the Order of Anthony Wayne in recognition of excellent performance and known for his keen wit and dry humor, was well regarded by his students. After completing active duty in the Artillery Branch of the US Army, Charles served in the PA National Guard and later in the National Guard of NJ. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor, FL.
Charles is survived by his wife, Dr. Kaye Pollock of Willow Street, PA; his son Derek Pollock of Phoenixville, PA husband of Mary McWilliams Pollock; his daughter, Jill Pollock Burgard of Alexandria, VA, wife of Stephen Burgard; granddaughters Meredith Pollock, Samantha Pollock, Alexandra Burgard, Quinn Burgard, and grandson Colton Pollock. He was preceded by his sister Barbara Pollock Prideaux. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania, 950 Walnut Bottom Road, Suite 15-229, Carlisle, PA 17015.
