John C. Gentry, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at his residence in San Antonio, Texas.
John was a native of Baltimore, MD. He was a proud Army veteran who served our country during the Korean conflict. He was also a proud Aggie, having gotten both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Texas A&M at College Station. John worked as a draftsman
for many years which led him to Brownsville 55 years ago and then to 29 years in Vocational Education in the Brownsville ISD. John was a devout Christian who served as a deacon and elder for various local Christian churches. John and his wife, Louise, moved
to San Antonio two years ago to be closer to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it was there that he followed his passion for wood-working, specializing in crosses and more recently, caterpillar planters. John was deeply loved and will be profoundly
missed not only by his family and friends, but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hettie and James Andrew Gentry; an infant brother, Art Gentry; and 4 sisters: Snow Miller, Janice Bopst, Lois Macks, and Mary Puckett.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of John is his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Louise Goodman Gentry; a daughter, Lynne Watson; a son, Steven (Barbara) Gentry; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jaime) Cerecero, Samuel (Fiancée, Erin Smith) Patterson-Vicino,
and James Gentry; 3 great-grandchildren: Caelin, Caleb, Ethan, and Evan who is on the way. John will also be missed by his sister, Susan Maricle, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
