Michael Boydston
June 15, 1944 - June 16, 2018

Michael Blake Boydston, 74 of Plano TX passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his home in Plano. He was born June 15, 1944, in Burkburnett, TX to W.P. and Mary Margaret Boydston. Mike grew up in Burkburnett and was involved in rodeos with his father and grandparents, Blake and Mary Browning. He moved to Wichita Falls, TX in the third grade and continued his elementary schooling and high school. Mike was in the National Honor Society and played on the Coyote Tennis Team and there he met his future wife. After graduation from Wichita Falls High School in 1962, Mike furthered his education at Texas A&M University where he was a member of The Corps of Cadets. Mike graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture in 1966 where he then was commissioned to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Anchorage Alaska as a Second Lieutenant in the artillery. After serving a few years there, Mike was sent to Vietnam as a Captain where he served one year and received The Bronze Star Medal, Field Artillery for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against hostile forces, March 1970. Upon returning to Dallas, Mike began his career in Landscape Architecture. After several years, Mike founded his own company, HKI Landscape Architects where he successfully grew his business for many years to follow. In 1993, his company was selected to be the sole provider of all Chick-fil-A’s in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana. Mike retired from HKI in 2017. Mike was definitely a hard worker as he continued the success of his business through two separate organ transplants, one in 1998 and one in 2009.

He was heavily involved in his son’s sports as a coach and mentor through their elementary days. Mike was hands on and loved to lend help in any form he could. He was always ready to lend a hand and offer guidance. Both Mike and Harlene traveled the state once his son’s attended college. Both sons’ playing college baseball kept them busy as seems like every weekend Mike and Harlene were in a different city watching baseball for over six years running.

Mike loved fishing, being in the outdoors, spending time on his backyard deck and sun room, cooking a great steak and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He attended baseball games, recitals, graduations, volleyball games, cheer games, watching the band and of course his Fighting Texas Aggies. He was active in the University Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital at www.scottishritehospital.org.

A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at 1:15 p.m. at the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
