Robert Edward LUTZ
APRIL 10, 1933 – JUNE 15, 2018

Robert E. Lutz (April 10th, 1933- June 15th 2018)
Robert E. Lutz passed away peacefully in his home, Friday, June 15th, 2018. He is survived by his three loving children: Ken E. (Carol), Tempe, Robert A., Chandler, and Di Ann Butkay (Joseph), Flagstaff. Bob’s love of life, and spirit of determination will be carried on by nine (9) grandchildren and fifteen (15) great-grandchildren (with one on the way).

Bob was born in Dallas, Texas on April 10th, 1933. His home of the Great State of Texas also united him with his high school sweetheart, Jo R., who passed away March 14th, 2017 after sixty-six (66) beautiful years of marriage, only to have Bob accompany her once again, in Heaven.

In many ways, Bob’s devotion to his loved ones could only be rivaled by his passion for electrical engineering. More than just a craft for Bob, his work as an electrical engineer was his lifeblood. Bob’s tireless work and unbridled enthusiasm for that work can be encapsulated in a remarkable career, highlighted by his ownership and operation of Lutz Engineering for 43 years. Bob will leave behind and indelible mark on the field of engineering, not only for the numerous accolades he compiled, or the sterling reputation he acquired through all those with which he did business, but rather the unparalleled standard of excellence with which he held everyone, especially himself. Bob was a class act; relentless, ornery, and unswerving in his attempts to put forth his best work, no matter how big or small the job. This was the hallmark of his professional career.

However, his most lasting impression will be the joy he received in sharing his knowledge with others—whether that be as an associate professor of electrical engineering at ASU, or especially with his beloved sons, who worked proudly alongside him for many years. Bob was famous for his integrity and honesty, on several occasions even refusing to overcharge customers when a job was completed ahead of schedule. An Aggie through and through, graduating from Texas A & M with an Electrical Mechanical degree, Bob always strived to abide by the Aggie Code of Honor: “Aggies do not lie, cheat, or steal, nor do they tolerate those who do.”

Bob Lutz was a hardworking, selfless, and loving husband and father. Howdy up in Heaven Bob. Gig ‘Em!

A gathering will be held in his Sun Lakes home Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 10 am to 2 pm.
