George Ross Tippett
December 29, 1924 - June 9, 2018

George Ross Tippett, PE, age 93, died June 9, 2018, in Prescott, AZ. Ross was born in Clanton, Alabama on December 29, 1924, to George and Clara (Thompson). His family moved to Gladewater, TX where he grew up and graduated from Gladewater High School. He attended Texas A&M College, Princeton and Rice University; was a proud member of the Aggie band; and graduated with BS and MS degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M (class of 1946). He remained an avid supporter of the Aggies for more than 70 years! Ross and Jane Downing were married in 1946 and lived in Abilene, TX for many years. After Jane’s death, he married Jacquelyn Corrigan and moved to Harker Heights, TX in 1992. He also served in the Navy and was stationed in Coronado, CA and Shanghai, China during the Korean War.

Ross had a successful career as a consulting engineer and was a founding partner in Tippett & Gee Consulting Engineers from 1955 to1977 in Abilene, TX. His group provided multi-discipline engineering services to various clients throughout the southwest region and rapidly established a reputation as a diverse, hard-working, and high-quality consulting engineering firm in the area. After retiring from Tippett & Gee Consulting Engineers, he founded Ross Tippett & Associates and later partnered with Kenneth W. Williams in Williams Tippett Associates (WTA) until his final retirement in 1980. He was active in the Texas Society of Professional Engineers for many years, serving as the State Director 1967-68 and achieving Lifetime Status in 2007. While living in Abilene, he was an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, the Exchange Club, and the Abilene A&M Boosters Club. In Harker Heights, he was a member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church and the TAMU Century Club.

Ross was a generous, loving husband, caring father, and proud grandfather who spent much time traveling—in the US and internationally, especially to visit family and friends. He enjoyed flying private planes for many years. He particularly enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, jeep trailing and golfing. Ross especially treasured the more than 30 summers spent at Priest Gulch Campground, CO, with his many good friends there.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara Tippett; his first wife, Jane Downing Tippett; and a daughter, Jean Ann Tippett Gairloff.

Ross is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Corrigan Tippett (Prescott, AZ); daughter Jenny Tippett (Michael) Kelley of Longmont, CO; and two grandsons Christopher Ross Kelley (Susan Littlejohn) of Herndon, VA, and Kevin Michael Kelley of Longmont, CO. He was also loved and will be missed by the families of Cheryl Corrigan (Daniel) Carrell, Wendall Corrigan (Thomas) Braniff, Shannon Corrigan Carlile, and Scott Jeffrey Corrigan.

A Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Granite Gate Senior Living Community at 3850 N. Highway 89 in Prescott, AZ. Graveside rites and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Elmwood Memorial Park at 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, TX.
