Oct 26, 1989 - May 27, 2018
Alexander Edward, 28, of Hillsboro, Oregon passed away May 27, 2018, while on a mountaineering expedition in Washington state.
Alexander was born and reared in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2005, he was awarded the silver medal in the Physics Olympiad. He spent 2008 as an exchange student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, while enrolled at Nan Yang University, Singapore.
Upon graduating with his bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Nan Yang University, Alexander moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Awarded the Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering in 2016, Alexander relocated to Hillsboro, Oregon, where he was employed as analog engineer with Intel, designing integrated microelectronic and analog circuits.
Alexander’s research has been widely published in engineering journals. In March 2018, he co-authored a book on circuit architecture for converting real analog signals into digital format. His research is being used in the production of microchips by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
An avid hiker and climber, Alexander also enjoyed long-distance bicycling. In December 2017, he completed a 2-week bicycle trip from Washington state to California.
He is survived by his mother, Susilowati Prabawa of College Station, Texas, and his father, Budi Purwanto Kartono of Jakarta, Indonesia.
Alexander’s love for the outdoors, and his joy in discovering and exploring new challenges will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His mother will always treasure the message he sent to her, this past Mother’s Day.
Memorial service arrangements are pending in Bryan, Texas.
