Moody E. Courtney Nov 17, 1926 – June 2, 2018 Moody E. Courtney, age 91, of Jonesboro, passed away on June 2nd. Funeral services were held on June 5th at First Baptist Church, Hamilton, with Rev. Drew Dabbs officiating. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in
Hamilton. Moody was born Nov. 17, 1926, to the late Rose and John Courtney of Jonesboro. He graduated from Jonesboro High School and Texas A&M University with a B. S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. He married Patty Courtney Dec. 26, 1951 at First Baptist
Church, Hamilton. They were married 66 years and farmed and ranched in Jonesboro. Moody was ordained a deacon in 1968 and served many years. He served on the Hamilton-Coryell Soil and Water Conservation Board for 36 years. He was a charter member of the Jonesboro
Fire Department and served 40 years. In 1968 the Ft. Worth Press awarded him “Conservationist of the Year,” and in 1969 Hamilton Chamber of Commerce recognized him as “Outstanding Farmer of the Year.” He is survived by his wife, Patty; a daughter, Dr. Mary
E. Moore and husband Dr. W.R. Moore of Tennessee; a son, David Courtney of Jonesboro; a grandson, Evan Moore and wife Ellen of Seattle, WA; two nieces, Kay Stamper and husband David, and Elizabeth Gilmore and husband Charles; and two nephews, John Courtney
and wife Martha, and Earl Courtney and wife Kerry . Memorials may be made to the Roofing Fund of First Baptist Church, Hamilton; 220 S. Bell, Hamilton, TX 76531.
