Charles Wayne Scott
December 12, 1935 - May 31, 2018

Obituary for Charles Wayne Scott
Softly call the muster,
Let comrade answer, “Here!”
Their spirits hover ‘round us:
As if to bring us cheer!
Mark them “present” in our hearts,
We’ll meet some other day.
There is no Death, but Life Eterne
For heroes such as they!
- Dr. John Ashton, Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1906
Charles Wayne Scott went to be with the Lord at 12:52 AM on 31 May 2018. He is reunited with the love of his life, our mom, Mary Ann and so many of his friends and family that went ahead of him. As hard as these days will be for those of us left behind, heaven is rejoicing because a favored son is home. He was born 12 December 1935 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved around frequently in his younger years because his father was in the Army, but even after his father’s retirement, they moved around from Texas to Mississippi, finally settling outside of Lampasas, Texas at Nix. He was known by family as Wayne, to professional and church acquaintances he was Charley, while to his Aggie buddies and high school friends he was “Bullet.”
Wayne graduated from Lampasas High School before attending Texas A&M College. He was a member of A-Ordnance, First Regiment, eventually commissioned in the Reserves as an Ordnance Officer, and receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was fiercely loyal to his beloved Texas Aggies. He readily acknowledged how much the Corps of Cadets and being an Aggie taught him and what it meant to him. Wayne went to work for City Public Service as an Engineer working on Commercial Business Projects. He worked for CPS for over 30 years. He was introduced to Mary Ann Yaws, by his uncle and aunt, R.G. “Reggie” and Dorothy Jean Holley, when they attended Harlendale Baptist Church. Wayne and Mary Ann would marry 30 March 1960 at Harlendale. They would never be separated again until Mary Ann’s passing in November 2012.
He raised two sons the exact same way. He would tell his sons to do the right thing, when no one was watching; to be honest, even if it landed you in trouble; and that there was an easy or hard way to learn every lesson, but not to be afraid to learn things the hard way because the lesson would stay with you forever. These lessons would guide their lives and the raising of their own children.
Wayne was a wonderful man, loving and kind. He was not prone to public displays of affection, but he was very emotionally centered. He loved people and always tried to place others before himself. Wayne was a devoted Christian. He was a Deacon in several San Antonio Southern Baptist Churches over the years. The Church he called home until the end of his life was Rainbow Hills Baptist Church, now known as The Hills Church. He led his children to Christ along with numerous others. Wayne was devoted to doing anything his personal skills allowed in making a difference, whether witnessing to others or helping to build the Churches he worshipped at, or cooking food at Church, Camp or in his home for youth group or other functions. He was a personal example to everyone who knew him. He lived by every tenet he espoused to others and no one could ask for a better standard.
Wayne loved working with young people and guiding them. He led Royal Ambassadors when his children were young. He volunteered to teach, cook, counsel or do whatever was needed each Summer when his sons went to youth camps at HEB Ranch in Leakey or Alto Frio Baptist Encampment. As a result, he impacted a generation of teenagers as if he were their own father, many even calling him Dad whenever they saw him.
Wayne leaves behind his brother Randolph Scott, sister-in-law Shirley Brown and brother-in-law Howard Yaws; Sons and Rhett and Wade, their wives Tracy and Trish Scott; and Grandchildren Zachary, Colin, Michael and Conner, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
We all miss you fiercely already dad.
