Father was always
a man you could count on,
a man to do the hard jobs,
a man to blow your bridges
after your soldiers retreat,
a man to find someone
lost in the night and fog,
somewhere near Cotopaxi,
a man to whip into shape
a battalion or a business,
a man to split his week
between two cities
to care for failing parents,
a man to stand by his wife
through decades of illness,
a man to know
when to fight for his sons,
when to step aside,
a man my brother and I
wanted to live up to.

Al Stewart Rosin, Colonel (retired), US. Army, Corps of Engineers, was born on the 18th of September 1927, and crossed over on Saturday, the 12th of May 2018. He had a happy and exciting life, which he spent with his dream girl, and wife Patricia Ann Bossy Rosin. He had two sons, Gary Stewart Rosin and Russell Stewart Rosin, of whom he was very proud.
He was veteran of three wars. He served in the Coast Guard, with duty in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Guam, at the end of World War II. He was a Platoon Leader in a combat Engineer unit during the height of the Korean Conflict in 1950-1951. He served in Vietnam during 1968-1969, as an Engineer Battalion Commander, and as the Executive Officer of the Group of Engineer Battalions assigned to Vietnam. His decorations include: the Legion of Merit, and First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Legion of Merit; the Bronze Star; the Joint Service Commendation medal; the U.S. Army Commendation medal; the U.S. Air Force Commendation medal; the U.S. Navy Presidential Unit Citation; the Republic of Ecuadór, Albon Calderón, Second Class, medal; the WWII Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal; the Army of Occupation medal (Japan); Korean Service Medal, with six battle stars and the Vietnam Service Medal, with three battle stars.
Using the G.I. Bill, he attended John Tarleton College, 1946-47, and graduated from The Agricultural & Mechanical College of Texas in 1950, with B.S in Civil Engineer, at which time he was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He went directly into duty in Korea. He received an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1961.
He and Patricia Ann Bossy were married on the 24th of January 1949. Together, they shared exciting and adventurous assignments in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Quito, Ecuador, Caracas, Venezuela, and Honolulu, Hawaii. Assignments in the continental United States included Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Monterey, California, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, West Lafayette, Indiana, Fayetteville Arkansas, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort McPherson, Georgia.
He retired from the Army in 1975, and started working for Lockwood, Andrews & Newman, Inc., a Houston architecture and engineering firm, as a Project Manager. He retired from LAN in 1990 as a Senior Vice President.
He was preceded to the other side by his wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia Ann Bossy Rosin; his cherished grandmother, Gertrude Evelyn Stewart; his beloved mother, Alice Stewart Rosin Curtis; and his brother, Fred Olin Rosin, of Austin. Still to cross are his sons, Gary Stewart Rosin and Russell Stewart Rosin; his daughters-in-law, Jan Swellander Rosin and Beth Bryant Rosin; his grandchildren, Matthew Stewart Rosin, Paul Stewart Rosin, and Barbara Beth Rosin Harmon; his great-grandchildren, Eloise Gary Scott-Rosin, Anastasha Louise Scott-Rosin, Ryan Stewart Rosin, Emily Renae Rosin, Bella Jaide Harmon, Stevee Elizabeth Harmon, and Russell Kane Harmon; his brother, Roy Rembert Rosin, and his wife, Lila, both of San Antonio.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 5th of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
