Bobby Ray Lindley
MAY 6, 1933 – MAY 21, 2018

Bobby Ray Lindley 85, of Abilene TX, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018. Bobby "Papa Griz" was born in Colorado City, TX to Roy Peircen and Ida Mae Lindley on May 6th, 1933. Bobby lived and worked on various ranches alongside his father, a government trapper. This life style taught him many valuable life lessons that he has passed down to this children and grandchildren. He loved horses and all of God's creatures. He attended Stanton High School where he played football for the mighty Buffalos. 65 years later, the Class reunion of 1951 honored each player with a reunion football jersey. Bob later went to work laying asphalt with the Texas Dept of Transportation. While working for TXDOT he found the love of his life, Sylvia Ann Boney. Bob and Sylvia were marred July 30th, 1954 in Colorado City, TX. Bob pursued his dream of being a Civil Engineer by attending North Texas State and then graduating from Texas A @ M with a Bachelor of Science, but not alone. Bob and Sibe had three children while he worked and attended college. Bob worked his way up through the years to become the Assistant District Engineer of the Abilene TXDOT. In 1978 Bob was awarded the Dewitt C. Greer award for his influence in the recycling of asphalt. Bob retired from the Texas Dept of Transportation after 38 years of service. One week after his retirement from TXDOT he was offered a job with the City of Abilene in which he worked his way up to City Engineer. Bob worked for the City of Abilene as the City Engineer until his retirement in 2009. He then opened his own Consulting Engineering business where he continued to review plans until the end of 2017. Bob believed in helping others, Bob had been a regular at BOBS (Breakfast on Beach Street) where he and Sibe helped serve and prepare many meals for needy citizens. Bob believed in our Lord Savior and chose to follow him and became a licensed minister. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia Lindley of Abilene. Son; Dirk Lindley, Daughter; Debra Hill and husband John, Grandson; Dustin Lindley and wife Shawna, Grandson; Garrett Lindley and wife Janet, Granddaughter; Laci Smoot, and Grandson; Justin Hill, all of Abilene. Granddaughter; Bridget Zachry and Brye Mackleprang of Arizona, and Granddaughter; Brooke El-attrache and husband Ethan of San Antonio. Granddaughter; Tiffany and Dustin Johnson of Alabama and Amanda Hill of Waco TX. Nine Great Grandsons and five Great Granddaughters. Bob was preceded in death by his Parents, Roy and Ida Mae Lindley, Sister, Opal McAdams, daughter, Dawn "Dee Dee" Lindley and grandson Mason Zachry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the American Heart Association Abilene Heart Walk 2018 and Hospice of The Big Country. Visitation for the family and friends will be held from 5:30 pm - 7:00pm Friday, May 25th at Elliot-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene TX 79606.
