A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, New Iberia, Louisiana. Visitation in the Church will begin at 9:00 am followed by the Memorial Mass. Father Alexander Albert will be the celebrant. A reception will be follow in the church hall.

On April 22, 2018, Clasina Buffelen Segura, 47 passed away. God chose to call her home and give her a new self in His image. She had 60+ days of sobriety. She was very happy and peaceful in her new found life.

Clasina graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy in 1988. She began her college studies at LSU in September, 1988. She began her studies in animal science. She attended a semester at UL and there became interested in sociology. Returning to LSU she changed her studies to Sociology. In 1991 she received an invitation from Texas A&M for a two year Masters program. In 2002, she received her Doctorate in Sociology from Texas A&M. She returned to Louisiana and worked for Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, adjunct professor at Delgado and instructor at South Louisiana Community College.

Clasina was a Facebook fan, searching out names of possible cousins in the Maraist/Beinvenu families. She had hundreds of names and faces of her cousins, close and distant. She reveled in meeting them at family reunions. The feelings were mutual. She was very proud of her heritage.

Clasina was an avid lover of animals. She helped her father take care of his herd of many rabbits. She was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association and American Netherland Dwarf Club. She showed her rabbits all of the southeast winning many prizes. Her activities also included participating in Iberia Parish 4-H shows. Her other interests were caring for her beautiful Cocker Spaniels. She kept records on all her dogs and presented them to the National 4-H council for consideration. Her records took first in the United States in 1987. In that same year she competed in the Louisiana 4-H Livestock show with Chuck Romero and won the event with their rabbits.

Clasina was a very generous person. Loved her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

Clasina was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. William C. Segura and Louella Maraist Segura; and uncle, William C. Segura, III, maternal grandparents Clasina B. Haley and William M. Haley and her aunt Mary.

Clasina is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney V. Segura; brother, William C. Segura of Tacoma, Washington, many aunts and uncles, Alexis Segura, Mr. and Mrs. David Segura, Richard and Bonnie Segura, Donald and Antoinette Segura, Annette Edwards, Phillip and Louise Young, Doug and Louann Gipson, (all of New Iberia) John and Linda Haley, Federal Way, Washington, Terry and Andrea Liddane Seattle Washington, many cousins, her best friend, Paul Voorhies, and her beloved dogs, Tippy Rose and Moxie.
