John Robert (Bob) Norris
October 04, 1943 - April 30, 2018

Norris was born in Atascadero, California on October 4, 1943 to Milton John Norris and Winifred Marie Chandler Norris. He attended grade school in College Station, Texas, Denton, Texas and McGregor, Texas. He graduated from McGregor High School in 1961. On August, 1964 Norris married his high school sweetheart, Kay Harrison. Norris earned a B.S., M.S. and PhD. In Food Technology from Texas A&M University.

He began his career in scientific research at Ralston Purina in St. Louis, Missouri. He continued his research in Food Technology in the Dallas area at Anderson Clayton Foods, Enersyst, Turbochef, Formative Solutions, and Jetsweep Solutions. He was awarded many patents for his research work.

Bob was both a scientist and an artist. He loved exploration. He enjoyed working on problems, using scientific facts to learn more, and finding solutions to solve a problem. He also enjoyed literature, music and art. His special form of art was photography. He grew up learning to use a camera to express his love of people, animals, architecture, and especially nature. As a writer, he wrote pieces using an economy of words and made the reader want to read more.

In the last 1 ½ years of his life he demonstrated courage and determination to fight his disease. He was always positive and hopeful. Many were amazed at his attitude and resilient spirit. He passed peacefully Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home in Plano, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 53 ½ years, Kay; his brother, Bill and wife Janie, his brother in law, Bennett Harrison and nephew Ross Harrison, his sister and brother in law, Helen and Joe Jones; his niece and nephew Kay Ann and Robert McKinney, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Bob’s life will be Friday, May 18, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas, 75075.
