Abbott Bowman Kelly died on May 5, 2018 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 12, 1957 in Charlotte, NC to Susan Bowman and Luther Wrentmore Kelly, Jr.

Bowman graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a BS in Civil Engineering and from Texas A & M University with an MSCE in Transportation Engineering. He was employed by the City of Raleigh as a Transportation Engineer

Bowman was a compassionate soul devoted to his wife, Twila Kay Kelly, who predeceased him in 2015 and was devoted over the years to their numerous pets. He was a lover of music, fine wine and good food.

Bowman was predeceased by his father, Dr. Luther W. Kelly, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Susan Kelly of Charlotte, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lu and Mark Leatherman of Charlotte, brother-in-law Jim (Geraldine) Van Etten of Lincoln, NE. Bowman is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of A. Bowman Kelly will be at Umstead Park United Church of Christ in Raleigh on May 17, 2018 at 4pm. A memorial service will also be held in Charlotte, NC on June 23, 2018 at Southminster Retirement Community at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Umstead Park United Church of Christ, Raleigh, NC, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County, Transitions Lifecare of Raleigh, or Metrolina Association for the Blind.
