Charles Ray Barrick
October 25, 1937 - April 03, 2018

Ada – Services for Charles Ray Barrick, 80, of Byng are at 11 a.m. Friday at the Central Church of Christ, Bud Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Barrick, passed away at his home in Byng, April 3, 2018. He was born on October 25, 1937 in Ajo, AZ to Charles Raymon and Ina Iola (Chaffin) Barrick.

Mr. Barrick married Doris Mae Bobbitt August 11, 1956 in Fairland, Oklahoma. Charles earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts at Pittsburg State University in 1963 and completed his master’s degree in Industrial Education in 1968. Charles and his family moved to Ada in 1971 when he accepted a faculty position at East Central University where he taught until his retirement in 1999. Charles earned his Doctorate of Education degree in Industrial Education from Texas A&M University in 1980. He was then granted tenure at East Central University and later served as the Industrial Education and Technology Department Head. Previous employment included an Industrial Arts faculty position at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, a teaching position with the Lee’s Summit Public School District in Missouri, as well as a machinist role with Boeing in Wichita, Kansas.

Mr. Barrick loved to volunteer and serve others in his community. He served as an elder at the Central Church of Christ in Ada for 12 years, led the town of Byng as mayor for 26 years, served as a volunteer firefighter in Byng for 24 years, was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Ada for many years, and was involved in numerous other civic and volunteer organizations throughout the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Wilbur Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Barrick, of the home; son Damon Barrick and wife Gayla of Ponca City, Oklahoma; daughter Laura (Barrick) Doner and husband Troy of Konawa, Oklahoma; son Timothy Barrick and wife Michelle of Allen, Texas; grandchildren Kyle, Gage, and Riley Barrick, Kase and Kohl Doner, Melissa and Daniel Barrick; sister Imalee Johnson of Ashland, Kansas; sister Charlotte Wheat and husband W.A. of Lubbock Texas.
