Birth: Sep. 28, 1918
Death: Jan. 14, 2007

ELM GROVE, LA - Mr. Joseph Harrell Elston, 88, passed away on January 14, 2007 in Shreveport, LA. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Brent Shoalmire, pastor of Elm Grove Baptist Church assisted by Rev. Gary Palmer, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, LA.

Mr. Elston was born in Haughton, LA and was a resident of Elm Grove, LA. He faithfully attended Elm Grove Baptist Church. Joe proudly served his country during WWII in the 456th Bombardment of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving 33 years as a Rural Mail Carrier.

His parents, Dudley and Una Lee Elston and sister, Sarah Brupbacher preceded him in death.

Mr. Elston is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margie Cobb Elston of Elm Grove, LA; daughters, Nancy Dorbandt of Austin, TX, Anne Ryan and husband Max of Blanchard, LA; sister, Evelyn Johnson of Bossier City, LA; brothers, Robert D. Elston and wife Candy of Elm Grove, LA, Dr. David Elston and wife Dolores of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren, Joey Ryan and wife Christi, Melanie Ryan Gordon and husband Justin; great grandchildren, Emma Ryan, Tyler Gordon, Brandon Howe and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nephews Doug Elston, Robby Johnson, David Elston, Jon Elston, Emil Brupbacher and Jack Brupacher will serve as pallbearers.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Bossier Parish EMS Medic 4 and to Bossier Parish Fire District 7.

Memorials may be made to Elm Grove Baptist Church.

Joe answered to many names: Daddy Joe, Uncle Joe, Daddy and "friend". He was truly devoted to family, friends and the Aggies, in that order except on game day. His sense of humor was legend. A little man with a big heart, Joe will be greatly missed.
