Dr. John K. Stamboolian, Jr
NOVEMBER 18, 1939 ~ MARCH 24, 2018 (AGE 78)

Dr. John K. Stamboolian Jr., passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester at age 78.

He was born on November 18, 1939 at Delaware Memorial Hospital in Upper Darby, PA to the late John K. Stamboolian and the late Berdjouhi Tchamkertanian Stamboolian.

John graduated from Millersville State University with a Bachelor of Science. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctoral Degree from Texas A&M University.

John was a Professor of Graphic Arts and Photography at the University of Minnesota, later moving to West Chester, PA where he was a professor of Graphic Arts Photography and Art History at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

A member of Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester, he served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher. He also was a member of Calvary Builders and made four trips to Florida and Mississippi in the aftermath of Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina for rebuilding projects. He was also involved with the church’s Appalachian Service projects where some youth affectionately dubbed him “Stambo-Rambo”!

He also served as an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 66 as well as coached youth soccer and softball teams.

John was a member of the Civil War trust, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Chester County Art Association.

His hobbies included; woodworking, oil painting, gardening, glass blowing, wine making, listening to classical music and reading Napoleonic War history.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katharine Best Stambooloan. Daughter Kristin Dripps (Michael) of West Chester, son John R. Stamboolian (Jutta Bruesch) of Bamberg, Germany, grandson Benjamin Bruesch Stamboolian and nephew Ralph Mongelluzzo of California.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation from 9:30-10:45am on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New St. West Chester, PA 19382; followed by his Memorial Service at 11:00am.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church's Appalachian Service Project or (ASP) at the above church address .
