Henry W. Brooks
Born: June 7, 1919
Died: September 15, 2012
Location: Austin, Texas

Henry W. Brooks was born June 7, 1919 to Henry Brooks, Sr. and Viola Simpson Brooks in Shafter, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Aurora Brooks-Brougher of Houston, TX and June E. Brooks of Austin, TX.

Henry was raised in the small silver mining community of Shafter, TX. Between semesters at Texas A&M he worked in the mine. After graduation with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M, he worked for Texaco Inc. before serving as a Captain in the Air Force during World War II.

Upon returning from service to the United States, he returned to Texaco and was assigned to a marketing post in Galveston, TX. There he met and married his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Alice Alexander-Brooks. They were blessed with a wonderful caring daughter, Beverly Ann, in June 1947.

Henry's 26 year Texaco career in marketing management cumulated in Corpus Christi, TX in 1965. At age 46 Henry fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own company. Henry and Marge established a construction and real estate development company and enjoyed many trying, but successful years of establishing their own business.

Marge and Henry enjoyed many happy years of retirement in Corpus Christi before moving to Sun City, TX in 2006. They enjoyed their new community and neighbors and made many wonderful friends. In 2011 they moved to Longhorn Village in Austin, TX for health reasons.

Henry was a gregarious individual who enjoyed meeting new people and entertaining friends. He was the consummate gracious host and known among friends as a "true Southern gentleman". His friends admired his positive outlook and his genuine interest in what was important in their lives. He enjoyed acknowledging the achievements of others but was always modest regarding his own. Henry was a lifelong student of American history and forever curious about the world around him. He loved riding in convertibles and all things sweet – he never found a desert he did not like with ice cream on top of the favorites list!

Henry was a devoted husband and loving father. He was much loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Henry's name to a charity of your choice.
