David Jonathan
Engel
1923 - 2013

David J. Engel passed away on July 6, 2013. David was born on May 22, 1923 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He grew up in Albany, TX, and Washington, DC, and served in the Army Air Forces in World War II. He was a longtime resident of Houston, moving here after graduating from Texas A&M (class of ’52). He worked as a civil and structural engineer in Houston, Cleveland, TN, New Orleans, LA, and London, England, and earned a Master of Engineering degree from Texas A&M in 1966. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana. He traveled to Japan, China, South America, Europe and many states during his career. After retirement, he and his wife Lillian enjoyed traveling to Europe and many destinations in the U.S.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife Lillian, his brother Godfrey, and his sister Virginia. He is survived by his sons David, Jr. and wife Gretchen of Houston, Robert and wife Martee of Spring, Charles and wife Rochelle of Madison, WI, grandchildren Katie and husband Thomas Nelson, Jon and wife Jennifer (GiGi) Engel, Stephen, Elizabeth, Alexander, Tamsin, Peter, Christabel, Reilly Nutting and great-grandson Jackson. In addition he is survived by many nephews, nieces, and their children.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., 77055.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Star of Hope Mission.
