Benito Flores

Benito Eusebio Flores
October 19, 1937 – April 25, 2018

Benito Eusebio Flores, 80, of College Station, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2018. A true family man, he was loved by all. Mentoring was his passion, along with traveling and learning about food, customs and people around the world. He was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico on October 19, 1937, the son of Benito and Ernestina Flores. He graduated from Ateneo Fuente Preparatory and continued studying to receive his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, followed by his Master and Doctorate in Economics from the University of Houston.

He was married to Kathryn M. Meath (Flores) on August 26, 1960, in Mexico City; they were married 57 years. Benito is survived by his three children, Benito Flores-Meath and his wife Tracy, Adriana Flores-Meath Font and her husband Antonio, and Laura Flores-Meath Opel and her husband Chris; his seven grandchildren: Tony, Amanda, Rachel, Alex, Valerie, Katya and Sofia; his sister, Minerva Flores; nieces and nephews whom he adored, and the rest of his family and friends.

He worked at Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Alfa and Hylsa in Monterrey for the next 16 years. He found that he missed academia and returned to the United States to teach at Indiana University Bloomington for one year. He then joined the faculty at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University for the next 24 years. He taught internationally in various countries to enhance students’ foreign education. He served as a tenured professor, as an assistant department head and was awarded the Tenneco Professorship. He chaired the International Committee of Decision Science Institute and was awarded a Fellow as recognition for his involvement and service over a number of years. He was a member of the Global Manufacturing Research Group, Production Operations Management Society, and retired in 2008 as a Professor Emeritus of Information & Operations Management at Texas A&M University.

In true fashion because of his commitment to education, Benito has chosen to donate his body to the Texas A&M Health Science Center’s College of Medicine as an indispensable aid in medical education and research. A Mass for the repose of the soul of Benito will be said at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 7:15 pm, Saturday April 28, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Traditions Hospice, in memory of Dr. Benito Flores.

Offer Condolences for the family of Benito Flores
