Millard Davis
Noell
1919 - 2018

Millard Davis Noell, 98, died on March 4, 2018 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater. The Reverend Michael Chaffin will be officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Millard was born on November 15, 1919, to Edd and Amanda (Crain) Noell near Richardson, Texas. He graduated from Richardson High School and earned a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M. His time at A&M was interrupted by World War II. He served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to a combat support unit that landed at Omaha Beach 16 days after the Allied invasion began. He received three battle stars, for Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. After the end of the war he was in the U.S. Army Reserve and was discharged as Captain, Military Intelligence. He returned to college and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Southern Methodist University. He married Edith Hufstedler on November 5, 1954 in Dallas. Most of his career was spent in Dallas in electronics manufacturing, as either a purchasing manager or a production planner, at Texas Instruments and Mostek. He retired in 1984 and in 1999 he and Edith moved to Stillwater.
He was a committed member of the United Methodist Church in Dallas and in Stillwater. In Stillwater he joined the Golden K Kiwanis. During his working years, he enjoyed spending his Saturdays with his family, often by working on the land he had purchased in northeast Texas. His lifelong hobbies were financial investing, reading military history, and gardening, the last one of which he passed down to several of his grandchildren. After retirement he devoted time to genealogical research. He coauthored and published a history of the Noell family, and he served as Director of the Dallas Genealogical Society. Most of all he loved his family. An outgoing and amiable gentleman, he could engage anyone in an enjoyable conversation. His positive outlook on life was no doubt crucial in helping him and his mother to cope with the death of his father during the Great Depression. Millard retained this perspective alongside his winsome manner through virtually a full century of life.
He was preceded in death by Edith, his devoted wife for over 60 years, and by a sister who died in infancy.

He is survived by his son Edd and his wife Nancy of Santa Barbara, California; his son, Alan and his wife Liz of Stillwater; six grandchildren and four spouses of grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 400 W 7th Ave, Stillwater, OK 74074 .
