Mary Melissa Brown
December 09, 1956 - March 08, 2018

Mary Melissa Brown, age 61, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gatesville City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the funeral home.

Melissa was born in Gatesville, Texas on December 9, 1956 to Lloyd P. Brown and Elizabeth (Adams) Brown. She resided in Gatesville until she left home to attend Texas A&M University. After achieving a Master’s of Science degree in Sociology, Melissa worked at various jobs including being a social worker, teaching social studies at Blinn Junior College, and doing administrative work at a nursing home. Her greatest passion, however, was an ecotourism business she founded called Baggett Country on the family ranch. She loved nature and the outdoors, observing and taking photographs of wildlife. She was a member of Gospel Fellowship Church in Caldwell. She loved to read, often staying up late at night to finish her most recent book.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Melissa is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Brown; brothers, John Brown and James Brown, both of Gatesville, and Lloyd P. Brown Jr., and wife, Denise of Los Alamos, NM; sister, Elizabeth Daniel and husband, Raleigh of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
