Myron Snell Gantt
SEPTEMBER 16, 1934 ~ MARCH 10, 2018 (AGE 83)

Myron Snell Gantt (9/16/1934 to 3/10/2018)

Myron Snell Gantt was born September 16, 1934, in Paris Texas to Morris Shepherd Gantt and Mildred Snell Gantt of Blossom, Texas.

The Gantt family lived in several Texas towns during his early years (Blossom, Commerce, Woodville and Pecos). Most of his public school years were in Denton, Texas, where he graduated high school in May, 1953. Myron attended Texas A&M College (now University) and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Accounting.

He started his career in Houston, working for Pan American Petroleum, Tenneco Oil and Allstate Insurance before giving in to the lure of Aggieland and returning to Bryan/College Station in 1968. He was accountant for St. Joseph Hospital, Controller for Beal Ford, Fiscal Officer at Texas Engineering Experiment Station and retired in 2000 from Hughes-Doonan Chevrolet, in Caldwell, where he was Controller/Office Manager. In 1982, while working at TEES, he earned his second Aggie Degree - Master of Education (Educational Administration).

In 2001 he realized that he hated retirement. He decided to attend Lauterstein-Conway Massage School in Austin and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2002. He worked a short time with Olson and Associates then joined Grace Wellness Center (previously Alternative Health Care) where he practiced massage therapy for over 15 years. That was his all-time favorite job, although he never had a job he did not like.

Myron and Sue were members of First United Methodist Church of Bryan for over 45 years. They were members of the Upper Room Sunday School class and served as secretary/treasurer for over 10 years. Myron also served as class president one year.

Over the years, Myron was a member of the Boy Scouts, the Denton High School Band, The Jaycees and The Kiwanis Club, serving as an officer in several of those organizations.

Shortly after moving to Houston in June 1957, he met and fell in love with Sue Blanche Willard and they married on February 2, 1958. They “honeymooned” in Ft. Benning, Georgia, for 6 months while Myron was on active duty after receiving his Army commission at Texas A&M.

Myron loved Aggie sports – especially football and basketball. He attended most home football games for almost 50 years, as well as numerous away games.

Preceding him in death were his son, Gregory Alan Gantt, his parents and his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Willard, of Giddings, Texas.

Surviving is his best friend and devoted wife of 60 years, Sue, his son, Bob, and daughter-in-law, Christy Gantt, and daughter-in-law, Lynne Gantt. Grandchildren and spouses include Josh (KC Hysmith) Gantt, Jessica (Jye) Shafer, Jordan Gantt, Natalie (Jeff) Stevens, John Myron Gantt, Sara (Dillon) Goggans, Colton Gantt, Nancy Kindle, Daniel (JinJoo) Kim, and Michelle Kim. Great grandchildren include Preston and Gwen Stevens and Avery Gantt. He is also survived by his brothers George Gantt, and wife Michele, and Jim Gantt, and his brother-in-law, Fred B. Willard, and wife Colleen.

Visitation with family and friends will be at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 5-7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Bryan on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 am. Following a lunch reception at the church, interment will be at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Bryan or to a charity of your choice.
