Ken Hartman passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 87 years on March 3, 2018 after a brave struggle with Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Myeloma. Ken will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Shane Hartman, and his children, Shane Hartman and wife, Kathy Svoboda, Tim Hartman and wife, Maria Hartman, Malinda Hartman Kocks and husband, Jack Kocks, Lisa Hartman and life-love, Jess Corrigan, his grandchildren Sarah Kocks Hoffman and husband Michael Hoffman, Jared Kocks, Jonathan and Frank Hartman, his great-grandchildren Hadley, Hunter and Holland Hoffman and his niece, Holly Hartman. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Patricia Hartman. Ken was born in Kansas City, Missouri; shortly thereafter his family moved to Dallas, Texas. He graduated from North Dallas High School at the age of 16 and went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Ken was a member of the Corps of Cadets and was proud to be an Aggie for the rest of his life. After graduating from A&M, Class ‘51, Ken served his country in the Korean War as a forward observer and Second Lieutenant. He returned to Texas after discharge, married in 1953 and settled in Houston, Texas where his first three children were born. Ken was hired at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas in November 1958. He moved his family to Dallas in 1959 where his fourth and fifth children were born. He worked as a Cost Engineer at TI until he retired after 38 years. During this time, he earned an MBA at SMU in night school. His passion for meticulous and accurate accounting was legendary in his division. Ken was a lifelong member of the East Dallas Christian Church where he first met his young bride, and later served as deacon, elder and treasurer. His strong faith in God sustained him throughout his life. An Eagle Scout, Ken loved the outdoors from a very young age. He was an avid hunter, angler and he taught his sons to shoot. He organized many deer hunts, vacations & trips with family and friends including hiking the Philmont Scout Ranch and canoeing in Minnesota. He was fond of camping and driving vacations throughout the United States but was known to weary of his children playing the Mustang Game in the car.

Please join the family for a service with reception following to celebrate Ken’s life at East Dallas Christian Church, 629 N. Peak Street, Dallas, Texas at 11:00 AM on March 10, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to the Michael J. Fox foundation to support finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease (http://www.michaeljfox.org) or the East Dallas Christian Church. Ken will be interred at Restland Memorial Park.
