Jimmie Akin
NOVEMBER 10, 1938 – MARCH 2, 2018

Jimmie M. Akin, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, March 2 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility with his family by his side. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Jimmie was born November 10, 1938 in Bryan the son of Manuel and Virgie (Batson) Akin. He served in U.S. Army National Guard for 7 years. Jimmie worked with father and uncle for the family business; Akin’s Menswear, and then later took over the business from 1968-86. He enjoyed playing guitar with the Medicare Jam Band and the Boys from Mathis Creek. Jimmie was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church and volunteered for the Texas Baptist Men’s Retiree Builders for 16 years. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Kathleen Akin and Mary Jane Ogden. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patsy Akin; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Kirk Barnes; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharla Akin; sister, Martha Hatcher; grandchildren, Cara Barnes, Colton Barnes; Ashley Divine and husband Kris, and Kelsey Akin; great-granddaughter, Aria Divine; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Regional Hospital and the staff at Hospice Brazos Valley for the care and support they gave to Jimmie.
