Services for Dan H. Lucy, 90, of Elderville will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Longview from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018.
Dan was born April 23, 1927 in the Elderville community to Jerry and Annie Lucy. Most of his life was lived on the family farm where he was born and raised. He attended Longview public schools and served in the US Navy during World War II. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in civil engineering in 1950 and was a loyal supporter of Texas A&M and the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering. He was active in the Deep East Texas Aggie Club and had served on the executive committee of the Texas A&M Association of Former Students.
Dan retired from Texas Eastman Company in 1987 after 37 years of service and leadership in engineering, construction and maintenance. During his retirement he remained active in the local community. He was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Gregg County Commissioners Court for Precinct 4. He had a longtime association with the Elderville-Lakeport Volunteer Fire Department as a member and president of the Board of Commissioners. He was also involved with the Elderville Cemetery as a member of the Elderville Cemetery Committee.
Dan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Longview and their Men’s Bible class. He served the church in numerous roles including as a member of the Official Board, the Board of Trustees and the Building Committee. He was a Rotarian, served as president of his local club, was a Paul Harris Fellow and had 32 years of perfect meeting attendance.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Kincheloe, whom he married in 1958 and their immediate family including son Dan F. Lucy, his wife Kelly and daughter Mariah from Flower Mound, Texas and son Stephen H. Lucy, his wife Lisa and daughter Kaitlyn from Midlothian, Texas. He is also survived by sister Julia Ann Wathen, brother Frank Lucy, and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Ann and Dan Lucy ’48 and Ann Lucy Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering c/o Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840 or to First United Methodist Church of Longview, 400 N. Fredonia Street, Longview, Texas 75601.
