Michael Egnatios Vourcos Sr.

Michael Egnatios Vourcos, Sr., age 91, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Cimarron Place Health and Rehabilitation Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on February 21, 1927 in Brownsville, Texas, to the late Egnatios Vourcos and Arcadia Guerrero Vourcos. During 1942, Michael became one of the first Boy Scouts in Brownsville to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Brownsville High School, he went on to serve in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
He continued to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves until his retirement from the military as a Lt. Colonel in 1977. Michael graduated from Texas A&M University in 1950 and went on to work as an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation, where he retired from the office in Pharr, Texas, in 1991. Michael was active in the Knights of Columbus, the International Order of Alhambra, the Serra Club, and a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas.

Michael married Maria del Rosario (Rosie) Trevino on October 8, 1951 in Brownsville, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 66 years; three children, Cynthia (Jeff) Dunham of Houston, Texas, and Michael (Yvonne) Vourcos, Jr. and Victor (Kathy) Vourcos of Corpus Christi, Texas; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas, with the Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas. Interment will follow at the Buena Vista Burial Park Cemetery in Brownsville, Texas.
