Luther Frederick Ellison
JANUARY 2, 1925 – FEBRUARY 27, 2018

Luther Frederick Ellison completed his work on this earth and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday February 27, 2018, at the age of 93. Raised in Camden, Arkansas, Luther Ellison graduated from Texas A&M studying petroleum engineering, geology and business. Dallas was home the majority of his adult life with Frances Williams, his wife of 46 wonderful years. Ellison worked for Sun Oil Company for 50 years, retiring as an Executive Vice President. He and Frances were active members of the Petroleum Club, Northwood Club, and most importantly, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. He formed Oil and Gas Experts in 1987. “Sonny”, as friends and family called him, loved people. God gave him a gift in that way. Everyone in a room got his attention, with love and encouragement equally applied. When you talked with him you felt better…about yourself and about your life. As a Christian, he strived “to be the hands and feet of Jesus” serving others at home, work, church and the communities in which he lived. He was preceded in death by his two beloved wives: Frances Williams Ellison of Dallas, wife of 46 years, and Patti Moody Ellison of Houston, wife of 18 years. Surviving relatives include his two daughters and their spouses: Connie and Jeff Campbell of San Antonio; Carolyn and Ed Sumner of Austin. Grandchildren include Hudson Hamner, Elizabeth, Daniel, and great-grandson Henry Vance, Brandon Hamner, Elli and Culver Sumner. Sonny loved Patti’s family as his own. They include: Mary Jane and Bob Wakefield, Hunter and Liz Wakefield, Edward Wakefield, Mary, Carlos and Mary Hunter Newall. Luther Ellison, at his core, had the heart of a teacher. Ellison set up the Frances W. and Luther Ellison Scholarship Fund in 1995 to support students of all abilities. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Designate in memo line: Frances W. and Luther Ellison Scholarship Fund, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, 75230. A Memorial Service will be on Monday March 5, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He will be buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
