Peter Knightes

A reception honoring the memory of Peter Knightes, 71, will be Jan. 27 at the Central Texas College Planetarium building.

Mr. Knightes died Jan. 7, 2018, at a Temple hospital. He was born March, 14, 1946, in Troy, N.Y., to Arthur and Farine Knightes.

He graduated from high school in 1963, SUNY Oneonta, Oneonta, N.Y., in 1967, and earned a master’s degree from Texas A&M. He taught at Bainbridge-Guilford High School, taught for KISD, and Central Texas College, from which he retired as professor emeritus.

Mr. Knightes served in the U.S. Army and worked for a time for the New York State Geological Department. He reviewed geology text books for a publishing company, was invited twice to speak at Oxford University in England, and served on the board that developed the National Science curriculum.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; his three sons, Geoffrey, Justin (Beth), and Nathaniel (Amber); and six grandchildren.
