Douglas Len Westbrook
July 31, 1956 - February 5, 2018

Douglas Len Westbrook, 61, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 5, 2018. Doug was born July 31, 1956, in Waynesboro, Georgia, to Dr. Bill R. and Madeline Watkins Westbrook. He grew up in Houston, where he attended Spring Branch public schools and graduated from Spring Woods High School. In his early years, he enjoyed gymnastics and swimming; in high school, he was active in photography and theater. Doug’s love of nature and the outdoors, which began in childhood on family land in Wimberley, continued throughout his life and surely led to his interest in land development and home design. Doug pursued these interests in college at Texas A&M University, where he combined academics, including a summer of study in Italy, with practical experience in construction. In 1988, Doug was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from A&M’s School of Architecture. After graduation, he continued his education at Houston Art Institute and Savannah College of Art & Design.

Doug had a designer’s mind, and was always looking for ways to make things better. His mother, Madeline, described him as a dreamer extraordinaire, a quality that defined him throughout his life. Doug’s career included early periods of self-employment in the fields of computer-aided design, landscaping, surveying, land clearing, and construction. Later, he held positions with several firms working in the fields of audio-visual automated home and business design.

In February of 1994, Doug married the love of his life, Lisa Annette Timpson, and together they had four children, Aaron Andrew, 22; Daniel Evan, 18; Abigail Jane, 14; and Anya V. (deceased). In addition to Lisa, Aaron, Daniel, and Abby, Doug is survived by his mother, Madeline Watkins Westbrook; brother William R. Westbrook and wife Susan; and sister-in-law Ginger Westbrook. Also nieces Jennifer Westbrook Waddell (daughter Avery), Elizabeth Westbrook Treece and husband Devon (daughter Maxine), and Katie Westbrook; and nephew Christopher Westbrook. Other survivors are cousins Dr. Mark Westbrook and wife Judy (daughter Shannon; son Colin and wife Mallory and daughter Adeline); Jane Westbrook Galler and husband Thomas; and Dale Westbrook and wife Lori. He is also survived by his aunt, the Reverend Linda Margaret Watkins, and cousins Cheryl Young (sons Dillon and Tyler), and Jim Smith (daughters Trinity and Ashley).

Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Bill R. Westbrook; daughter, Anya V. Westbrook, and brother, Stephen Patrick Westbrook.
