Manley Jones Jr.

Manley Wright Jones, Jr., of Georgetown, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Life Tribute services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S. College Ave in Bryan, Texas. Guests are invited to a light reception following the service in the Pecan Room at Callaway-Jones.

A native Texan and member of the Sons of the Confederacy and the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Manley was born June 3, 1937 to Manley, Sr. and Homer Lacy Callaway Jones in Crockett, Texas. His public school years were spent in Crockett, Garland, Texas, and Stephen F. Austin in Bryan, Texas.

He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, Texas, and received a BBA from Texas A&M University in 1959 where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and distinguished military graduate. After college he entered the US Army, rising to that of Special Forces Commander. He was wounded in Viet Nam and went on to be recommended for the Silver Star and receiving numerous decorations including Master Parachutist and the Purple Heart. While in Vietnam he served as a Green Beret Unit Commander of a Vietnamese Strike Force Battalion. His foreign tours also included Germany, then in South Korea and Italy in Military Intelligence. Back in the U.S., he served with NORAD in Colorado. While there he earned a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Colorado. He was medically discharged from the Army due to his injury in Viet Nam in 1976.

Manley went on to work in civilian managerial positions and as an entrepreneur which took him to Las Vegas, Ohio, Houston and finally to the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta and on to Mississippi, where he was an ordained minister for the United Methodist Church and pastored churches in the Hattisburg area. Upon retirement, Manley moved back to Texas, settling in Georgetown with his college sweetheart, Beverly.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Callaway Jones, and his parents.

Survivors include his wife Beverly; two daughters, Cheryl Jones Mountin and her husband Dan of The Colony, Texas, and Heather Jones Taylor of Houston. He also shared Beverly’s family; daughter, Casey, and two granddaughters, Sarah and Autumn, and their families.
