74, of Pleasant Plains died at 5 a.m. Wednesday at his residence.
He was born in Bosque County, Texas, on July 19, 1916, the son of August H. and Emma Holle Spitzer. He married Sarah Tolan in 1939 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary, in 1948; and a brother, William Spitzer. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. A livestock breeder, Mr. Spitzer was director and past president of the American Angus Association, served on the Pleasant Plains School Board for many years and was a member of the Welsh Pony Society of America.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Ann; one son, Gregg of Pleasant Plains; one daughter, Karen of Pleasant Plains; four brothers, Edwin of Denver, Colo., John of Meridian, Texas, Herbert of Iowa City, Iowa, and Walter of Georgetown, Texas; one sister, Mary Nivin
of Clifton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Lichtenberger officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
