FEBRUARY 17, 1925-FEBRUARY 18, 2018

Calvin Curtis Jones, 93, of Mart died Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Hillcrest. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, February 21, at the First Baptist Church of Mart. Burial followed at the Mart Cemetery.

C.C. Jones was born February 17, 1925 in the community of Pleasant Grove, Texas to Calvin and Vivian Jones. He grew up on a farm and graduated from nearby Thornton High School.

As a member of the Greatest Generation ever, he was a freshman at Texas A & M on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. As soon as he was age eligible he joined the Army Air Corps, now referred to as The United States Air Force.

After basic training he was shipped off to Tacloban Leyte, Philippines, where he served until the Japanese surrendered and WWII ended. After the war, he returned to Texas

A & M where he finished his degree in Agricultural Education.

He took a job with Humble Oil and Refining Company as a commissioned agent in Mart in 1948. In 1952, he married Betty Jo Benoit and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage that produced four children: Calvin, Keith, Neil, and Jill.

He purchased the Chevrolet Dealership in Mart in 1962 and operated it for 40 years. In 1986 he purchased the Chevrolet Pontiac Buick Oldsmobile Dealership in Marlin and operated it until his retirement in 2002.

C.C. Jones was a member of the Mart ISD school board for 25 years; a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Central Texas; a member of the board of deacons of First Baptist Church in Mart; and operated a cow-calf operation in Limestone County until January 2017. He served many years as a member of the board of directors on several companies affiliated with Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jones, his son Neil Jones, and his daughter Jill Ann Jones. He is survived by his son Calvin Jones, Jr. and wife Janet of Waco; son Keith Jones and wife Laura of Cleburne; granddaughter Magan Jones of Mart; grandson Travis Neil Jones and wife Lindsey of Cedar Park; granddaughter Holly Kleypas and husband Bret of Bryan; and grandson Tyler Jones of Houston.

He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter London Jo Kleypas of Bryan and great-grandson Tristan England Jones of Cedar Park, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mart.
