Joseph Merit "Rex" Branom, Sr.
Phoenix - Joseph Merit "Rex" Branom, Sr. passed away on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2018. He was born in 1925 to James Merit Branom and Mary Ethel Garoutte Branom in Commerce, Texas. Rex was a mechanical engineer and, after graduating from Texas Tech in 1959,
he moved his family to Phoenix and began working for Sperry Flight Systems Company. He also has Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Texas A&M and, prior to moving to Arizona, taught Industrial Arts at Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State
University) in San Marcos, Texas. During WWII Rex was a Staff Sargent in the Marine Corps, serving in the South Pacific.
Rex was preceded in death by his sisters Clarine, Jimmie Sue, Geraldine and Jeanne. His sister Frieda is 102 and is living in Commerce, Texas. He was also preceded by two wonderful wives; Jessie Elizabeth Franklin Branom who passed away in 1971, and Patricia
Monfort Branom who passed away in 2009.
In addition to his sister Frieda, Rex is survived by children Joseph Merit Branom, Jr. (Jane) and Carolyn Frances Branom, and step children Scott Monfort (Betsy), Charles Monfort, Brooke Monfort and Doug MacBeth (Tonya).
Rex is also survived by grandchildren Jessica Law Branom-Zwick (Josh), Michael Allen Franklin Branom (Emily), Christopher Jason Hedgecock (Yolanda) and Jenny Elizabeth Branom Patberg (Bill).
He was a wonderful father, a true gentleman, a great story teller, and so much more. Rex loved and was dearly loved by his family. He will be greatly missed.
