Charlie Kosarek(1926 - 2018)
June 23, 1926 - February 3, 2018
Charlie Kosarek Jr., 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 3, 2018 at his home in Boerne, TX. Born in Bryan, TX on June 23, 1926, Charlie was the second oldest of 4 children born to Charles and Alice Kosarek. Charlie graduated from Steven F. Austin high school in 1943, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was an Eagle Scout. He began attending college at Texas A&M, but left to join the U.S. Army Infantry in January 1945. Sergeant Kosarek was on board a ship heading to Japan when Hiroshima was bombed, so they rerouted to the Philippines. After four and a half years, Charlie left the military and went back to Texas A&M, graduating with bachelor's degrees in Geological Engineering and Petroleum Engineering in 1951. After college, Charlie began working in the oil fields around south Texas and Mexico. Charlie met the love of his life, Carol Ramsey, in 1954 in McAllen, TX. Carol was known to say that Charlie swept her off her feet when they met, and the two married on November 11, 1955. They had their first daughter, Christi Kosarek (Monroe) and resided in McAllen until 1958. They then moved to San Antonio where they had their second daughter, Cathy Kosarek (Ratterree), and resided for another 48 years. In 2006, Charlie and Carol moved to Boerne where they spent the rest of their years together. Charlie's career lasted for 66 years and he was a well-respected Geologist. He trained many people in the oil industry, was always helping others in need, and always trusted a handshake. Charlie participated in multiple community fundraisers, donated to various causes, and was active in many organizations. Charlie was the president (and charter member) of The Petroleum Club, a donor of the Presidents Endowed Scholarship (Texas A&M), and was a member of the 12th Man Foundation, South Texas Geology Society, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES), Texas Czech Heritage Society, Association of Former Students (Texas A&M), and the Corps of Cadets (Texas A&M). GIG 'EM!!
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy and Allie, brother John, and his beloved wife. He is survived by his two daughters and two grandsons, Michael Kosarek and Travis Ratterree. He will always be remembered as an amazing, loving, generous, and nurturing husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor.
Charlie's family would like to extend a very grateful thank you to Nurse Next Door and By Design Home Care Inc. for their care of Charlie in his final months. Private services will be held for family and close friends, before he is placed with Carol at Mission Park Cemetery. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.legacy.com and click Search.
