MORRIS EDWARD ALBERS
January 9, 1924 - February 8, 2018
Morris Edward Albers, age 94, of Temple passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was born January 9, 1924 in Halsted, Texas, the son of Odell Walter and Irene Wessels Albers.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 5:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1018 S. 7th St., Temple, Texas.
Burial will take place at 2:30 PM Monday, February 12, 2018 at La Grange Cemetery in La Grange, Texas.
Morris graduated from La Grange High School. He attended Texas A&M in College Station for three years before he was called to active duty in WW II. He was commissioned a 2LT in the U.S. Army and deployed to Europe, where he served as a troop commander in the
13th Armored Division. He was wounded twice and awarded the Purple Heart Medal. During his recovery in France the war ended and he returned to College Station to complete his studies, earning a B.S. in Agricultural Education in 1947. After graduation he initially
worked in the Farmers’ Home Administration and Soil Conservation Service before serving as a civilian in the Department of Defense in the San Antonio Air Logistics Command—which took him to multiple countries including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. He retired
as a Colonel after 30 years of service in the United States Army Reserve.
On December 19, 1946 he married his high school sweetheart, Vivian von Minden. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary recently. Throughout his life he volunteered for numerous organizations. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple. Morris
was always fair and always saw the best in people. His devotion to his faith, his family, and his country never wavered.
He is survived by his wife Vivian of Temple; children Morris E. Albers II and his wife Linda of La Grange, Texas; Moira Kathleen Seyle and husband Mike of Kansas City, Missouri; Mary Michele Britt of Wheeler, Texas; Margaret Elise Oliver and husband Chris of
Anchorage, Alaska; and James Herman Albers and wife Kathy of Temple. Grandchildren Jill Glick and husband Matthew of Kaufman, Texas; Conor Seyle and wife Amanda of Denver, Colorado; Brien Seyle and wife Bridget of St. Louis, Missouri; Erin Strack and husband
Keith of Kansas City, Missouri; Jake Britt and wife Ann of Wheeler, Texas; Josh Britt of Wheeler, Texas; Christopher Oliver of Seattle, Washington; Nicholas Oliver of Anchorage, Alaska; Hannah Albers of Temple, Texas; Rebecca Albers of Temple, Texas; and 13
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Wilburn Frank Albers of Houston, Texas.
Morris was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Marie Albers, grandson 1LT Ben Britt U.S. Army, son-in-law David Britt, and his parents Odell and Irene Albers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: St. Mary’s Catholic School, 1019 S. 7th St.,
