December 1, 1939 - February 6, 2018
Nacogdoches native W. E. “Ed” Rosenberger, 78, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Lily Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Sonny Scarborough and Bro. Gene Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 5-7p.m. at Laird Funeral Home.
Ed was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Nacogdoches, the son of Kenneth Jackson Rosenberger and Frauline Hogan Rosenberger. He graduated from Nacogdoches High School and later attended Texas A&M University, where he attained his Bachelor degree in Animal Science. He honorably served in the U. S. Army after college. Immediately after his military service, he worked for the U.S.D.A. and later was active in the cattle business. As a young man, he competed in rodeos all over the country, often winning in saddle bronc riding and the all-around cowboy competitions. In the late 1980s, he was active in horse training and horse racing.
Ed was also active in his church, teaching in Sunday School and serving as church ombudsman.
His family and friends remember him as a great storyteller who supported rodeo, Aggie football, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was known for his compassion and willingness to help countless people by becoming a mentor in both life and work. There was never a cow he couldn't catch or a horse he couldn't tame. Our lives were all touched by knowing Eddie Rosenberger and thus will never be the same. He wouldn't want us to mope around, hang our heads or drag our feet, instead, do as he did... "reach n' get it! Go somewhere and be somebody". And when faced with a challenge, refuse to accept defeat.
Survivors include his wife, Fran Rosenberger of Nacogdoches; daughters, Kendra Dickson and husband Chad of Denton and Jennie Brady and husband John of Denver, CO; sons, Rob Rosenberger and wife Jamie of Virginia, Jesse Roth and wife Laurie of Mustang, OK., and Jonathan Whitaker and wife Tina of Lufkin; sister, Kay Hooper and husband Fred of Nacogdoches; brother Ken and wife Janice of Rosenberg, TX.; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chad Dickson, Rob Rosenberger, Jesse Roth, Steven Molanders, Josh Dempsey, Jonathan Whitaker, Chad Holt and Reece Grayson.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Rosenberger's name to Gideons International, or to Rodeo For A Reason at 624 West University Drive, Denton, Texas 76201.
