Nick Onofrio Jr.
February 17, 1936 ~ January 24, 2018 (age 81)

On January 24, 2018, the world lost a great man, Nickolas Umberto Onofrio, Jr. Nick was a man of principles who lived each day to the fullest and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. He was a role model that set an inspiring example and had a special ability to bring out the greatness and uniqueness in everyone. His confidence and larger than life personality always made an impression.

Nick was an accomplished man who lived a full life. Professionally, he devoted his career to Tesco and Southwest Steel. He served as President of the Steel Founders’ Society of America, Chairman of the Texas Cast Metals Association, and on the Board of Directors of the American Foundry Society. Personally, Nick bled maroon. His experience at Texas A&M as part of the Class of '57 and Corps of Cadets set the foundation for the rest of his life and began his strong and everlasting commitment to being an Aggie. As an Aggie sports fanatic, you could always find him in the stands at any game. Upon retirement, he returned to College Station and became an active volunteer with the 12th Man Association and Aggie Hall of Champions, where he is showcased in the spirit video. When he was not in Aggieland, you could find him on the golf course or at the bay fishing.

Above everything, family was his greatest pride. He was a devoted husband, remarkable father, and loving grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his children and their spouses, Cindy, Carol, Vicky and Jeff, Paula and Wade, Beth and Dennis, and Andy; siblings, Dolly and Anthony; 18 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. His Aggie legacy lives on through 9 Texas A&M graduates over 3 generations.

Nick was a fightin’ Texas Aggie whose spirit can ne'er be told. Class of 57' Whoop!
