Herbert L. McCaskill
August 12, 1938 - January 24, 2018

Funeral services for Mr. Herbert L. McCaskill, 79, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2018, in Feazel Chapel at First Baptist Church in West Monroe with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mr. McCaskill was born August 12, 1938, in Sandersville, Georgia, and passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at his residence. He was a graduate of Texas A & M University and the University of Florida where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Stroud McCaskill; daughters, Mary Leigh White and husband Craig of Dallas, Texas, Katharine Louise Burwell of Portland, Oregon, and Valerie Lynn Dickman and husband Mathew of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sister, Mary June Knight and husband Randy of Fern Park, Florida; and grandchildren, Andrew White, Vivian White, Daphne Burwell, Charlotte Burwell, James Dickman, and Nora Dickman. He is also survived by four stepsons, Greg Fullerton, Kenny Fullerton, Tim Fullerton, Scot Fullerton, and their families.

Mr. McCaskill served in the Army (1961-1963) during the Berlin Wall and Cuban Missile Crisis and received an honorable discharge as Captain in the Army Reserve.

While in Georgia, he was Owner and President of H. L. McCaskill Construction Co. and his company specialized in commercial and industrial construction. He was also a partner in Modern Concrete Services, Inc.

In 1982, Mr. McCaskill joined the faculty of the School of Construction Management at Northeast Louisiana University and was Director of the School from 1987 to 1994. He retired from the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 2003.

Mr. McCaskill was active nationally in the construction industry and construction education. He was a national and international consultant on construction education accreditation. He served as national president of the American Institute of Constructors and the American Council for Construction Education.

Over the years he was active in the community. He served on the City of Monroe Tree Board, President of the City of Monroe Beautification Board, Board of Directors and Vice President of Youth House of Ouachita, Inc. He was a member and president of both Auxiliaries of North Monroe Medical Center and Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

He was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church and enjoyed many years of volunteer work at First Baptist Church West Monroe.

Pallbearers will be Roger Thompson, William Hobson, Hollis Bray, Dr. David Manry, Bill Marsailis, J. J. Huckabay, and Dan Dupree.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
