Pat, as she was lovingly known, was born May 6, 1956 in Sumter, South Carolina. As the daughter of an Air Force officer and a doting mother, she was well traveled living in England, Germany, Washington D.C., and all over the southern United States.
Pat graduated at age 17 from Abilene Cooper High School and received her B.S. in Zoology, Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University in 1977, the day after her 21st birthday. Upon graduation she returned to Abilene to work as a process operator at Pride Refining for over 16 years. She married Riley West on September 17, 1988 had two children, Caitlin and Joshua, who were the light of her life. Pat worked at home as a medical transcriptionist for the past 7 years in order to take care for her special needs son Joshua.
A devoted mother, she was always involved in her children's activities including serving on the board at St. John's Episcopal School as the President of the Parents Council and serving as the President of Cooper High School Parent Partnership. Pat was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest for more than three decades and served in many capacities during that time, including teaching Sunday school. In addition, she was active in leadership roles with the Classical Chorus of Abilene, serving on the board for 6 years, 4 of those as board president, as well as coordinating the choir's tour of Italy and several special events. Pat was always involved with Special Olympics supporting her son, Joshua, in all of his activities.
Family was particularly important to Pat, and she considered it a privilege to host many family gatherings, often including many of her friends. She was an avid reader, regular theatergoer, and enjoyed healthy competition, whether it was adult USTA tennis or family board games, but it was her deep love and devotion to her children that gave her life great meaning. Pat was dearly loved and will be greatly missed; departing from our lives much too soon.
