Thomas V. McGannon, Jr., age 93; beloved husband of 68 years of June McGannon, nee Barrow; loving father of Ann (James) Compton, Thomas V. McGannon III, Marcie (Bill) Anderson, Patrick (Bea) McGannon, Mary Kathleen McGannon, and Laura (Larry) Stavenger; dear grandfather of Jesse, Brett, Jenny, Shannon, Jamie, Kimberly, Patrick, Abbie, Matt and Mark; cherished great-grandfather of Tyler, Zachary Mikayla, Aidan, Madilyn and; dearest brother of Richard L. McGannon. A Memorial Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 11th at St. Isaac Jogues Parish, 306 W. Thomas McGannon Jr. `45 ,died Nov.1st, 2017, at the age of 93.

Tom graduated from High School in Longview, Texas and enrolled at A & M in 1942, Class of `45. During that time in WWII, College and Military Training occupied about 12 months each year. In 1944, the Class of 1945 was inducted into military service. After completing Officers Training School at Fort Benning GA. Tom was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry when he was nineteen years old. He remained at Fort Benning for several months, as a weapons instructor. During that assignment, the Invasion of Normandy occurred.

Tom was send oversees and was assigned to the 260th Infantry Regiment of Patton`s 3rd Army. He was awarded a Silver Star for action during combat. He remained in Germany until 1946 and was discharge at the rank of Captain.

He returned to A & M and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Tom started work with Amoco Oil Co. in Texas City, Texas.

During the Korean War, in 1951. he was recalled to active duty and assigned to teach military science at A & M when Colonel Boatner was Commandant.

Tom was again discharged from the military and returned to work at Amoco. After working in Texas City, he was transferred to Amoco's Headquarters in Chicago where he held several managerial positions before retiring.

Retirement was wonderful, he and his wife June, spent time in Hinsdäle IL, and Marco Island FL.

He is survived by June, his wife for 68years, six children, ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and brother, Richard McGannon`50
