Robert J. "Bob" Rau
Died: January 3, 2018

After a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, Bob ascended to heaven on January 3, 2018. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on January 10, 1932 and resided in Baton Rouge Louisiana with his wife, Molly where they reared 3 daughters. Bob grew-up in Bryan, Texas and attended Texas A&M University at the age of 15, earning a Petroleum Engineering degree. He was a proud Aggie from the Class of 1952. He was an active member of the Baton Rouge Aggie Club. He proudly served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany as a 25th AAA Battalion Radar Officer. In 1960 he was employed by Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation eventually directing gas measurement over six states. He worked for Transco for 32 years. He was highly recognized for his knowledge in the oil and gas industry. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana who authored publications throughout his professional tenure. Bob participated at the International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (ISHM) held annually at Oklahoma University where he served as a member of the ISHM General Committee. In 1981 he had the honor of serving as the General Chairman. He also served on the Executive Committee and as a Principal Advisor to the School. In addition to Committee participation, he taught classes and instructed engineers throughout the world. Bob was the recipient of The Distinguished Service Committeeman Award for his dedication and service to the school. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle who loved to travel with family and friends, especially in their motorhome following the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church from 1964 until his death. He was a member of the Broadmoor United Methodist Men’s Club. He appreciated music and looked forward to seeing the weekly Texas A&M band performances. Bob also enjoyed home projects. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Molly Quillin Rau. Also survived by his daughters , Kimberly Ashford and husband Jimmy Ashford , Katherine Long and husband Steve Long , and Kristina Rau. Grandchildren – Lauren Long Pizzolato and husband John Pizzolato, Kevin Long, Scott Ashford, and Jordan Long. Great Grandchildren- McCall Pizzolatto and CY Pizzolatto. Sister-in-law Patsy Deal and husband Frank Deal. Also many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. He was proceeded in death by his parents Thelma Rau Gamble and Horace Rau, step-father Carl Gamble, mother-in-law Eloise Barr and sister-in-law Linda Mooney. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 5PM to 7PM and again on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 1PM to 2PM at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Funeral service will be at 2PM with burial following at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
