Jeff W. New
December 16, 1931 - December 26, 2017

Jeff W. New passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Victoria, TX. He was born on December 16, 1931 in Franklin, TX to Jeff and Gussie Guttery New. As a child he worked for his dad at his service station and as a taxi driver in that small town of less than 1,000 people in Central Texas. Jeff graduated from Franklin High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. While in the U.S. Navy, he served in the Korean War. He met his loving wife, Mildred Isaacks in Beeville, TX while he was serving in the Naval Air Station there. They were married in 1953. Upon returning from military service, he entered Texas A&M under the GI bill. He graduated with honors from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1959. He was a member of the honorary societies of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Lambda Upsilon and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. After graduation, they moved to Victoria where he started his career with Union Carbide. He always wanted to have his own business and eventually started a service station and convenience store in Victoria until his retirement.
In college, Jeff was involved in intramural sports such as basketball, tennis, softball and golf. He continued playing basketball for several years in a league in Victoria. His lifelong passion was golf. He was a very active player at Riverside Golf Course, where he also served on the board for a number of years. He played regularly with friends at Riverside, and their group was known as the "Riverside Rats". He got both of his children interested in golf at an early age, which they are both very grateful for. Jeff played in numerous amateur golf tournaments over the years in Victoria and surrounding cities on the "BBQ circuit tour". One of the highlights of his golfing life was winning the annual Wild Game golf tournament with his son in 2002, when he was 70 years old. His daughter has great memories of her Dad teaching her golf and visiting the Texas Gulf Coast together. He enjoyed fishing and hunting dove and quail in South Texas with his friends and brother, Joe New. Jeff really knew how to enjoy life with his friends and family and could light up a room with his vivacious personality. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Victoria.
In Franklin as a young boy, he and his brothers and friends would often go to a local "swimming hole" called Wolf Den. He and has brothers have told many stories of the fun times they had there.
Since growing up working for his Dad in his service station and mechanic's shop, Jeff learned a great deal about working on cars. He owned many different cars during his life, including his favorite, which was a 1963 pink Thunderbird. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and owned several during his lifetime. His favorite motorcycle that he often talked about was a 74-cubic inch Harley Davidson that he had as a teenager.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mildred Isaacks New; son Jeff D. New of Scottsdale, AZ; and daughter Julie Loo and husband Michael Loo of Austin, TX. His grandchildren are: Cameron New of Houston, TX; Brooke New of Fort Worth, TX; and Austin, Dawson and Reese Loo all of Austin, TX. Jeff is also survived by brother Jack New and wife Roger of Fulshear, TX and sisters-in-law Minnette New of Victoria, TX, Patty Collins of Pleasanton, TX and Esther Wrinkle of Odessa, TX and brothers-in-law Richard Isaacks of Corpus Christi, TX and John Isaacks and wife Sarah of Baytown, TX. He also has many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law Jack and Mamie Isaacks; brother Harry New and wife Edna; sister Eloise Tighe and husband Jimmy ; brother Joe New; brother Donald New and wife Justine; and sisters-in-law Betty Beyer and Ruby Wrinkle.
On Saturday, December 30, 2017, visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with church services from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm. Both will be held at First Baptist Church of Victoria with the Rev James Shamburger officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Victoria or Bluebonnet Youth Ranch.
Arrangements by Rosewood Chapels.
