(October 21, 1934 - December 30, 2017)

Weslaco - Candelario Leonel Gonzalez "C.L.", 83, passed away Saturday, December 30,2017 at Retama Nursing Home in Harlingen. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.

C.L. Gonzalez, 83 entered eternal rest on December 30th surrounded by his family. He was born October 21st, 1934 in Los Saenz, Texas to Candelario and Leonor Gonzalez. He is preceded in his death by his parents, brothers; Servando Gonzalez, Incarnation Gonzalez, and his sisters Maxine Cantu, Estela Saldivar, and Lee Trevino.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 60 years: Mary Gonzalez and his four children; Barbara (Kenneth) Dobbins, Larry (Alicia) Gonzalez, Patrick (Gladys) Gonzalez, Charlotte (Steve) Nott and twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. And his sister Anita Cantu.

C.L. graduated from Texas A & M in 1974 with a Masters Degree in Range Science. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army after the Korean War. He worked for the USDA for over 35 years as a soil scientist in Weslaco, TX. After retiring from the USDA, he worked with Davis Real Estate.

C.L. was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved ranch life and enjoyed spending time at the ranch with his family and grandkids where he taught them how to hunt. He will be sorely missed by all.

The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and the Retama Manor of Harlingen for all the help and kindness they offered.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 200 N. Illinois Ave., Weslaco, TX 78596.
